Create Category

1 – Login to Self-Help dashboard using super admin credentials.

On successful login admins will be redirected to home page of Self-Help portal which will show “Dashboard” button.

2 – Click on “Dashboard” button to access Admin section.

3 – Click on “Content Management” tab and then select “Categories”.

The “Category Management” page has two types of categories –

Default Solution Categories at the top – These are the categories already available in database.

Newly Added Solution Categories at the bottom – These are categories added by admins. All the categories in this section are shown to users. Most of the time you will do changes in this section of categories unless you are advanced admin.

4 – For creating new category click on “+CATEGORY” button at top right corner.

5 – A “CREATE CATEGORY” form will open. Enter the relevant information about your category and click on “SAVE” button.

Name – This is the category name to be shown on portal.

Description – This field is optional. You can provide a short description about category.

Sequence – This field will determine order of category to be shown on portal. The category with sequence 1 will be shown at top. Make sure all categories have different sequence.

Icon style – Specify icon for your category. You can visit “Bootstrap glyphiconshttps://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.3/components/ or “Font awesome” https://fontawesome.com/icons?d=gallery to get the icons for category.

Image Upload – You can also provide an image file for your category to be shown at home page but only one of above either Icon Style or Image will be shown at home page for your category.

Background Color – This field will give you background color for your category. It will reflect in home page.

Text Color – This filed will provide you text color for your category name.

For example, if you upload image, change background color and text color then it will be seen in home page as below –

Tool-tip – This text is shown when you move mouse over category blocks.

Publish – Yes/No – Select Yes if you want to publish or make it live now. Select No if you want to create category but do not want to show it to users now.

Save – Once done click on Save button to save the category. If you have selected “Yes” in Publish field then it will be shown to users.

If information provided is correct the category will be created and displayed in list.

The Category will be shown as below when user visits the portal in sub menus of “Support Category” and as blocks below banner –

Update Category

1 – Select the category that is to be updated.

2 – Click on “EDIT” button. The existing details will be shown in update category form.

3 – Make the changes and click on “UPDATE”.

Delete category

1 – Select the category that is to be deleted.

2 – Click on “DELETE” button.

Note :- Be very careful In using this as all the dependent data will be deleted and it cannot be retrieved. All the sub categories and solutions will be deleted. All the analytic data related to them will be erased. If you want to keep the category but do not want to show to users so that you do not lose data see the next section.

3 – The category, sub-category and solutions relevant to this category will be deleted.

Publish/Unpublish the category

Category will only be shown to users if it is published otherwise it will be in records only.

1 – Select the category that is to be published / unpublished.

2 – Click on “EDIT” button.

3 – Change Publish to Yes or No.

4 – Click on “UPDATE”.

Copy to create category from existing categories

The categories in section “Default solution categories” can be copied and moved to “Newly Added Solution Categories”. All the dependent sub categories and solutions are moved and become available to users. Use this feature only when you understand it completely.

When you click on “COPY” button. It will create a new category in “NEWLY ADDED SOLUTION CATEGORIES” table and also create sub-category & solution relevant to copied category. You can check sub-category and solution table after “category copied successful” message.
